3D printer hourly rate – practical 3D printing guidance, real-world cost considerations and free calculator tools from 3dprintcalc.no.
This guide isolates the hourly cost of running a 3D printer. The hourly rate can include depreciation, maintenance, expected downtime, electricity and other machine overhead before material, labour and profit are added to a customer price.
An hourly machine rate is useful when comparing long and short prints or when the same material is used across many jobs. It should not be confused with a complete selling price, because a finished quote may also need filament or resin, hands-on labour, failures, fees and margin.
Build the rate from realistic annual printer use rather than assuming the machine runs every hour of the year. Lower utilisation spreads depreciation and maintenance across fewer billable hours, which raises the true hourly cost. Keep electricity visible as its own input when local power prices move often, instead of hiding every changing cost inside one fixed rate.
