Practical 3D printing guide

Filament cost calculator – practical 3D printing guidance, real-world cost considerations and free calculator tools from 3dprintcalc.no.

Use this guide when the main question is material cost: what a spool costs, what one gram costs, and how much filament a specific print consumes. It separates material cost from machine time, labour and profit so the result stays useful for quick print estimates.

Start from the actual spool price and net filament weight, then multiply the cost per gram by the grams used for the print. PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU and other materials can differ substantially in price, so use the value for the material actually loaded rather than a generic average.

For a practical estimate, use slicer weight when it is available and include a small allowance for purge, supports, brims and failed starts where they matter. Keep these material-only inputs separate from printer depreciation and hands-on work so you can see whether a change in filament price actually changes the final selling price in a meaningful way.
