Cost per gram is a useful material-pricing shortcut, but it is not the same as the total cost of a 3D print. The per-gram figure starts with spool or resin cost and consumed material, while a finished job may also need machine time, electricity, labour, failures and profit.
Use this guide when you specifically need a per-gram basis for comparison or quoting. If the goal is simply to find the filament price per gram, use the filament guide; if the goal is the final customer price, use the full print cost calculator instead.
Per-gram pricing works best for similar parts printed with similar settings. It becomes less reliable when a light part takes many hours, needs extensive supports, requires post-processing or uses an expensive machine. In those cases, treat cost per gram as one component rather than the full selling model, otherwise long or labour-heavy jobs can be systematically underpriced.
